New project to asses the safety of nanotechnologies

The Platform of Experimental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology of the PCB () and the company , which is part of the PCB-Santander Bioincubator, are taking part in the project , which aims to guarantee the safe use of nanoparticles and nanostructuring materials, from their production to their disposal.

The objectives of this subproject are to provide a scientifically-based proposal to establish a series of in-vivo and in-vitro trials that enable toxicological assessment of nanomaterials and vectorization of drugs using nanoparticles, as well as to test some of the proposed strategies, especially in areas where a significant lack of information has been detected. These areas include in vivo data, toxicity due to repeated doses, genotoxicity, toxicogenomics, environmental toxicology, bioaccumulation in the organism, biomagnification and integrated assessment of ecological and sanitary risk.
